About Us

The Durham Educational Mentoring Program (DEMP) is designed to assist children from Kindergarten - Grade 12 to become proficient in the subjects of mathematics, literacy, science, social studies, while developing life skills and healthy lifestyles. The materials used in the program follow the Ontario School Curriculum with the emphasis on understanding the basic skills of the three R’s. Students also receive help with their homework.

Volunteers from various Community Groups with varied educational, professional and life skills experiences assist in the delivery of the DEMP program. In accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education, teachers possess a teacher’s certificate or its equivalent while the volunteers are proficient in the level of education for the grade in which they assist. All volunteers in the program must possess a valid criminal background clearance before working with vulnerable populations.
